Tempo for Market Research

Your field data, live in a portal for every client. Photos in, verified findings out, share of shelf, pricing and distribution insights in seconds.

Retail data collection for market research still runs on forms. A rep fills in a questionnaire, someone keys it into a spreadsheet, and the client gets a report weeks later that nobody can check against the shelf.

Tempo turns that around. Your reps take photos. Tempo reads them the same day. Your client opens their own portal and sees it all.

02One email to get a client in

Your agency sends an invite. The client opens it and signs in with Google, WhatsApp or email. They only ever see their own brand's data.

03Open any store, see every visit

Click a store on the map and its visits open beside it, newest first. Open one to see the photos and findings.

04From photo to verified findings

Your reps photograph every shelf. Tempo reads each photo and checks the visit before the rep leaves the store.

  • Facings. Every product counted.
  • Prices. Shelf tickets read.
  • Gaps. Missing items flagged.

Every number links back to the photo it came from.

05The insights your client is paying for

Once every shelf is read, the questions agencies get asked every month answer themselves. All of it filters by region, channel, store type and date, and every figure opens to the photos behind it.

Share of shelf. Facings for the client's brand against every competitor on the fixture, by store and by region. Week on week movement, not a quarterly snapshot.

Share of category. Where the client sits inside the category and which competitor is gaining. Split by region to show where the fight is actually happening.

Shelf placement. Eye level, top or bottom, position in the run, whether the brand block is intact. Compare placement against share to show where a better position would move volume.

Category pricing. Shelf ticket prices for every SKU in the category, tracked over time and by region. Price gaps to the nearest competitor, promotional depth, and who moved first.

Distribution. Percentage of visited stores stocking each SKU, by region and store type. Numeric distribution from the shelf, not from a distributor's dispatch list.

Out of stocks and gaps. Where listed SKUs are missing, how often, and whether the gap is a store problem or a region problem.

An example of what the portal returns on a sparkling water audit across 42 stores:

InsightWhat Tempo found
Share of shelfBrightwell 26% average, ranging from 34% in the city centre to 18% in the north
Share of categoryBrightwell second in the category, 4 points behind Fizzo and closing in two regions
Shelf placementBrightwell at eye level in 61% of stores, Fizzo in 78%
Category pricingBrightwell 330ml priced 8% above Coastline on average, gap widest in pharmacies
DistributionBrightwell Raspberry stocked in 71% of visited stores, Lime in 93%
GapsRaspberry missing from 12 stores, all in one region, all one distributor

Numbers above are from a demo project. Your client's portal holds their real ones.

06Forms for what the photo can't see

Some of what a client wants to know isn't on the shelf. Why the store stopped stocking a SKU. What the owner thinks of the new pack. Whether the competitor rep came through this week and what they offered.

Build a form for each project with whatever the field should ask: short answers, multiple choice, a rating, a voice note. Reps fill it in at the same visit, in the app or over WhatsApp, alongside the photos.

Tempo treats those answers as context, not a separate spreadsheet. Each response sits against the store, the visit and the shelf data from the same moment, so it can be aggregated and cut the same way: by region, channel, store type and date. Ask the portal "why is Raspberry missing in the north?" and the answer draws on both the gap count and what 12 store owners said about it.

07Ask for a report. Get it in seconds.

Ask a question in plain words, in the portal, on WhatsApp or by email, and Tempo answers from the visits. "Where is our share of shelf dropping?" gets a ranked list of stores with the photos. Weekly or monthly reports arrive on schedule as PDF, Word, PowerPoint or Excel.
